<hi style=afpcap>The Douglas C-74 Globemaster I began life during World War Two, as a development of the C-54 with an enlarged fuselage containing an electric cargo lift. Despite being ordered in 1942, the first C-74 was not delivered until October 1945 with the last of 14 built joining the Army Air Force in April 1947. The C-74 participated in Operation Vittles to resupply the beleaguered city of Berlin in 1948. Its service career was comparatively short as deliveries of the C-124 rendered the C-74 obsolete.</hi>
